AUGUST 23 –13th Sunday after Pentecost.
Our keyboardist of the past 9 years, J. Althea, retires today and we will be singing all of her favorite songs. Pastor Benjamin preaches a sermon on Matthew 16:13–20 entitled, “Answering for Ourself.”
SEPTEMBER 6 – 15 th Sunday after Pentecost / Gathering of the Waters
This morning we gather for multi-generational worship. We will gather and bless the
waters of summer and celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Rev. Benjamin J.
Broadbent, Lead Minister, preaches a sermon for all ages on Matthew 18:15–20
entitled, “How to Be an Adult.”
SEPTEMBER 13 – Launch Sunday
Today we launch the ministry program year of our church which stretches until Memorial Day weekend next May. Our Chancel Choir, under the direction of Andy DelMonte, makes its debut and Karna Roa plays our organ. Pastor Benjamin preaches a sermon on Exodus 14:19–31 entitled, “Ambivalent Deliverance.”
SEPTEMBER 20 – 17 th Sunday after Pentecost.
Today the Handbell Ensemble, directed by Karna Roa, makes its debut and we welcome a guest preacher, Rev. Dr. David Vasquez–Levy, President of the Pacific School of Religion, who will preach on Exodus 1:1–14 a sermon entitled, “God on the Move.”
SEPTEMBER 27 – Outreach Sunday
Today we will receive the Neighbors in Need Special Offering of our denomination, the United Church of Christ, and we will celebrate our church’s various outreach commitments. Pastor Benjamin
preaches a sermon on Matthew 21:23–32 entitled, “Let Your No become Yes.”
