Summer Sunday School Interest Centers
Summer Sunday School is here! Each summer we host Sunday School in Fellowship Hall as a one-room schoolhouse for children ages 3-10.
During the summer months, following the Children's Message, our children's religious education will continue with curriculum from Sparkhouse in our Summer Interest Centers. Each Sunday enjoy fun special art projects, crafts, cooking, music, stories and games. There is something different every Sunday!
Introducing. . . Our Safe Church Policy
The Church Council in October directed Pastor Rachel to put together a team of people to create a Safe Church Policy for our church. The team worked diligently to develop a Safe Church Policy that defines abuse prevention and response policies, as well as creates an atmosphere of truth-telling and education around being a Safe Church. Serving on the team: Pete Emerson, Pat Furber, Linda Inman, Laurie Kellner, and Pastor Rachel. The Safe Church Policy was adopted by the Church Council on April 5, 2017 and is available below.

“One day children were brought to Jesus in the hope that he would lay hands on them and pray over them. The disciples shooed them off. But Jesus intervened: "Let the children alone, don't prevent them from coming to me. God's kingdom is made up of people like these." After laying hands on them, he left. Matthew 19:13-15 The Message
Sunday Morning Worship with Children
We believe that children are an important part of our church community and are always welcome to stay in the worship services. However, most of our children chose to participate in our Nursery and Sunday School Programs. Children of all ages are always welcome to remain in the sanctuary with their families for Sunday worship. Nursery care is available for children up to age 3 and we offer Sunday School programs for Pre-Schoolers through 5th Graders during most Sunday services following the Children's Message.
Children ages birth – 3 are invited to join Jamie and Laurelin and their helpers in the Nursery, in Room 4 in our Education Wing. As part of the Safe Church program, and from a desire for our members to attend worship services regularly, the church has hired two Nursery Attendants. The Safe Church program requires that we have two adults (trained, background-checked, over 18) working with our children at all times. We welcome Jamie Holmes and Laurelin Lewis to our Nursery! Jamie is a student at Sonoma State University, working towards her Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education, and is an experienced child care provider. Laurelin Lewis is a gymnastics instructor, mother, and comes to us after working in the Nursery at Church of the Incarnation in Santa Rosa. We are delighted to welcome these safe, calm, patient, experienced child care providers to our Nursery program. Jamie and Laurelin will be available for your child in Room 4 from 9:00 am until noon.
We also welcome Jenna Gonzales, our new Nursery Coordinator. She has volunteered to help manage the scheduling and weekly oversight of the Nursery Attendants. We thank you Jenna for your continued service!
Starting again on September 10...
Godly Play for Pre-school through 3rd Grade
Godly Play storytellers tell Bible stories from the heart, using Montessori-style wooden pieces. The children and storyteller then wonder about the story together. Afterwards, children create self-directed art using the nice craft materials in the room. And they conclude with a small snack of Matzo and water.
Godly Play is offered immediately following the Children’s Message during worship - children attend worship with their family first, then are invited to go to Sunday School to enjoy their own special classroom activities. Pre-School and Kindergartners are invited to join their Godly Play class in Room 5. 1st, 2nd and 3rd Graders will meet in Room 6.
All children are invited to leave the Sanctuary following the Children's Message or they are welcome to stay in worship with their families. Parents should make their way to their child’s classroom immediately following the worship service and then join in our Coffee Hour social time.
Children in grades 4-5
The children in this age group meet in the Media Room following the Children's Message. If you are available to help, please contact Pastor Rachel, Associate Minister for Children & Families, who will provide curriculum and orientation.
On Communion Sundays our children will begin worship in the Sanctuary with their families and then at the middle hymn, children ages 3 and up will be invited to join Rachel in Faith Chapel for a Chapel Circle. The children will then return to worship in the Sanctuary during the Doxology to partake in Communion with their families. Children under age 3 may go the Nursery in Room 4 with Fran Rasmus. As always, children may stay with their families for the entire worship service in the Sanctuary if they wish. Activity bags are available from the ushers.
